Paper Tube Studio (PTS)
After the strong public response sparked this year by the presentation of Counting the Rice, followed by Looking at Colors in the Paper Tube Studio (PTS), the Centre Pompidou-Metz presents a final participatory exhibition by Marina Abramović: Mutual Gaze, on view from May 9, 2026, to November 23, 2026.
This third chapter invites visitors to take the time to look at one another, to experience the intimacy of a shared space and a genuine human connection, where time takes on a different dimension. In a world of constant distraction, taking the time to reconnect with oneself and others has become a real challenge. The Abramović Method is an invitation to silence and to being present in the moment. This method is a synthesis of Marina Abramović’s research and experience over the course of her fifty-five-year career. It constitutes an exploration of presence, both in time and in space.
Sit in a chair.
Close your eyes and take a few deep, relaxing breaths.
Open your eyes and focus on the eyes of the person in front of you.
Engage in mutual gaze.
Be as motionless as possible.
Blink as little as possible.
Breathe as slowly as possible.
Stay for as long as you wish.
