Hans Hollein, winner of the Pritzker Prize in 1985, marked a break with modernist functionalism. In 1967, he declared: ‘Everything is architecture’, and his works reflected his desire to break down the boundary between interior and exterior. With the aim of dematerialising architecture, he created a Mobile Office (1969) that was inflatable and transportable, permitting a complete immersion in the environment. He diversified, to embracing collage, design, architecture and exhibition design, Hollein freed his discipline from its narrow confines.
