This ambitious urban development project was first planned in 1996, aiming to breathe new life into an area that once housed a disused freight station and exhibition hall.
Current features
The East side of the Amphitheatre district already accommodates two large-scale amenities:
Les Arènes: a multi-sports leisure centre opened in 2001. This project was designed by Paul Chemetov and Borja Huidobro, and funded by the French Ministry of Finance and the Evolution Gallery of the Natural History Museum in Paris.
Seille Park (20 hectares): designed by landscape artists Jacques Coulon and Laure Planchais, its development has ecologically transformed the banks of the Seille which runs alongside the district.
