A visit to the Centre Pompidou-Metz is also an opportunity to discover the city and its surroundings. From the Roman era to today, three thousand years of history and multiple European influences have forged the character of this Lorraine city. Discover a number of monuments and sites including the Saint-Etienne Cathedral and its nave, one of the highest in Europe, as well as its many great stained glass windows, the Cour d’Or museums, which house one of the biggest Gallo-Roman and medieval collections in France, or the Imperial Quarter around the train station built by Kaiser Wilhelm II.
For visitors to explore this exceptional and remarkably well-preserved heritage, the Centre Pompidou-Metz has created Here and There. In this original space adjoining the Forum you can browse through brochures, obtain information from Metz Tourist Office agents, or consult interactive terminals. Placing great emphasis on dialogue and collaboration between diverse institutions and audiences, the Centre Pompidou-Metz has also printed a mural chart linking together cultural institutions and important 20th century architectural sites in the "Grande Région" (Lorraine, Luxembourg, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland and Wallonia). Have a look at publications linked to the Centre Pompidou-Metz programme in the convivial space on the mezzanine. Centre Pompidou resources can be accessed via screens and include teaching files as well as the 65,000 works from the collection of the Musée national d’art moderne.
